Thoughts on Newest Pokémon Sun and Moon Trailer – “Meet Silvally, Kommo-o, and Other Stunning Pokémon”

Happy Monday! As we slowly inch closer towards the release of the seventh generation of the Pokémon games, Sun and Moon, we got a brand new look at the game from Nintendo last week. This time, we meet more new Pokémon, and we have a few to be excited about.

We got our first look at the evolution of Type: Null, called Silvally. While this pokémon doesn’t change much, it does gain an ability that you might recognize. Like Type: Null, it is a pure Normal type, but its RKS System ability (Arceus? Get it?) allows it to change its type depending on the item that it’s holding. Yep, this is the same ability as Arceus from the fourth generation of games. This has some interesting implications for the story of the games; as we know, Type: Null and Silvally are synthetic chimera pokémon, created for a mysterious purpose. Could that purpose be to create a pokémon that is as powerful as the mythical “god” pokémon Arceus? Type: Null and Silvally will definitely play a role in the game’s plot, since they are the main companion pokémon of Team Skull’s Gladion. More to come on that.

Next up, we get a look at the evolved forms of some of the new pokémon. Jangmo-o evolves into Hakamo-o and Kommo-o, who are dual Dragon and Fighting types. These pokémon look fearsome, and I’m thinking they might be a great pick! We also get a look at Bounsweet’s evolutions: Steenee and Tsareena, who remain pure Grass types. Cutiefly has an evolution as well: Ribombee, and remains Bug and Fairy type. Finally, we get a look at the Alola Forms of Grimer and Muk, who gain the Dark type. Their design is pretty cool, looking as though oil or chemicals have been added to their sludge.

After this, we get a look at two new characters. Olivia is the Kahuna of Akala Island, and she specializes in Rock-type pokémon. Then we get Ilima, who is a team captain who specializes in Normal types. It looks like she may appear early in the game, since there’s a scene with her speaking to Professor Kukui and the trainer.

With every trailer, I get much more excited for the release of this game! Expect to hear my thoughts once the official demo is released tomorrow October 18th.
